What qualities does a support worker need?
Have you ever wondered what qualities you need to be a support worker? Aside from the two obvious qualities kindness and compassion, you will need to:
Be patient, empathetic and respectful of others' property. Be calm and respectful, caring, supportive and non-judgemental.
Be respectful of people’s life choices whilst encouraging good choices with humour and intuition.
Have a sense of humour. Humour goes a long way.
Be a good listener.
Have the ability to connect with someone as an individual rather than viewing them as part of the collective. Every one of our clients is very different in lifestyle choices and hobbies.
Be patient and not patronising, ensuring your client feels well-supported.
A fantastic support worker will have a positive attitude, seeing solutions to problems. You will get to know your client and know how to uplift them. Be open and warm in order to build a rapport with your client. Get to know everything about them.
Driving licence preferred (unless happy and able to commute on public transport)
If you have the qualities needed to be a support worker, we would love to hear from you!
